Sony 4K-Ready Camera Announced
Sony have introduced a wide variety of 4K cameras. They have the CineAlta 4K cameras, the Sony Alpha A7s, the NEX-FS700 and more besides! Now they are also bringing out an upgradeable 4K-ready camera so that you can start shooting 4K even if you do not yet have 4K TV/monitors to watch the videos.
Sony revealed the latest addition to their XDCAM line-up in July. That is the PXW-X70 camera, which will be upgradeable to 4K. Sony have confirmed that they will bringing out an upgrade for the camera so that you can record in 4K UHD with it. That upgrade will probably be released in early 2015.
Sony’s Product Marketing Manager stated: “This first compact member of the XDCAM family brings the performance and workflow benefits associated with XAVC to an even wider range of shooting scenarios. Over the past couple of years we’ve seen the broadcast industry really embrace the picture quality benefits associated with large sensors; the one-inch sensor at the heart of the PXW-X70 sets a new standard for colour, depth and texture in a professional compact camcorder. Coupled with the ability to upgrade to 4K, this represents a multipurpose, future-proof option for customers looking for a tough camcorder which doesn’t compromise on image.”
It is Sony’s first professional compact camcorder that is Wi-Fi enabled via smart phone or tablet. The camera includes a Content Browser Mobile application , which allows for confirmation of shot angles. In addition, you can also operate the camera by remote, and transfer MP4 footage from the camera directly to tablets.
The camera boasts a 1.0″ EXMOR CMOS sensor with 20 megapixel resolution. It provides multiple recording formats such as XAVC, AVCHD and DV file-based recording. The PXW-X70 uses the MXF file format to compress the full HD resolution.
This camera has a 1.0 type Exmor R CMOS Sensor with a 20 megapixel resolution. Its lens has a 12 x opitcal zoom, but that can be expanded to 24 x with the Clear Image Zoom. You can double the camera’s optical zoom to 48x with a Digital Extender.
It also has a couple of SD Media Card slots for storage. With those slots you can record either simultaneously or in relay mode. As such, you can swap an empty card for a full card while the camera records.
