Blackmagic is a renowned maker of 4K video production cameras such as the Blackmagic 4K Production Camera and now they’ve come up with an even more professional, high powered Vidoe production rig that blows its predecessors by the company (or many competitors) away.

The new URSA 4K Video Camera was first announced at the NAB show in Las Vegas, Nevada in April of this year but then the company delayed its release for assorted reasons and to the considerable dismay of professional cinematographers and Blackmagic fans in particular.

Now however, the URSA is definitely available and some of the first publicly posted shots of its 4K video capture clearly show that this machine was worth the wait.

Cinematographer John Brawley, who has also demoed footage from other Blackmagic devices such as the company’s Pocket Camera, has uploaded some of the first frames of crystal clear 4K video footage captures with the URSA professional grade video production camera.

You can enjoy these shots in the video below and even if your screen isn’t equipped for 4k, color/light quality of the clip clearly shows the quality of the URSA professional cinematography rig.

The URSA represents a serious change from previous Blackmagic models and as part of this difference, it features a 10 inch 1080 pop-out display, a user-replaceable 4K sensor and traditional camcorder form factor. In terms of overall physical design, the camera is also dramtically different in size and shape from other Blackmagic video capture products.

The URSA also leaves other Blackmagic 4K cams behind by being able to shoot 4K video at a very fast 60 frames per second, which is the speed of the shots taken in Brawley’s video.

The video that you can view here was captured by John Brawley with a Cooke 25-250 MK3 T3.7 PL Mount Zoom lens and stored onto several 128GB SanDisk CFast 2.0 SSD cards at a resolution setting of Ultra HD with a 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution.

The Ursa 4K camers currently retails for $5,995 USD on Blackmagic’s online store.
