Yi Technologies has recently announced the availability of it’s newest pocket VR camera, which is actually the first pocket 5.7K 360 camera that offers in-camera stitching at up to 4K/30fps resolution, and live streaming in 4K.

According to Sean Da, CEO of YI Technology, the Yi’s 360 VR main goal is to make high-end virtual reality video shooting easy and accessible to anyone who wants to create and share content in stunning 360. Specifically:

“Today’s solutions for 360 capture and sharing force users to choose between an affordable low quality, low resolution product and an overly expensive, highly complicated product. That is why we worked so hard to perfect YI 360 VR. By combining the best components, rigorous industrial design and many years of testing, we eliminated the cables, confusing interfaces and bulky components and added 5.7K fidelity, 4K in-device stitching and 4K live-streaming, all in a handy, affordable package”

The YI 360 VR Camera comes with two Sony IMX377 image sensors behind dual 220° f/2.0 aspheric glass lenses that in combination with an Ambarella H2V95 chipset allow users to capture up to 5.7K 360 videos and 16MP stills. The 5.7k video can be stitched using the accompanying YI 360 Studio app for Windows, The new 360 degree cam also comes with a quicker in-camera stitching app for iOS & Android that, unlike other solutions that do their stitching in the cloud or on another device, directly outputs stitched 4K/30fps 360° videos. The app also allows you to control the camera, preview, playback, edit and share 360-degree videos from any smartphone.

The pocket camera is also great for live streaming thanks to a high-speed connection with built-in 2.4GHz & 5GHz Wi-Fi, which provides download speeds of up to 100Mbps, so you can connect to your smartphone or even another ultra HD display device and instantly share VR content to Facebook or Youtube, even in 4K resolution.

Since the YI 360 VR is made to be taken anywhere, it features a small, light and mountable design that can fit comfortably in the palm of your hand, and only weighs 6 ounces. What’s more, it’s easily operated using two navigation buttons and an action button on a crystal clear OLED display. Users are able to preview the footage in five viewing modes: little planet, stretched view, panoramic, round, and dual VR.

So far, the YI 360 VR is compatible with both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets. The pocket VR camera is supposed to already be available at Amazon and major online retailers starting at $399.99
