Xbox One X Will Download Game Assets In 4K, Even With HD TVs

Now this requires some careful thinking if you are planning on buying an Xbox One X and you don’t yet own a 4K television.

Ever since we first news about “Project Scorpio” we knew that Xbox One X was specially designed to fully run 4K graphics. For this reason, you shouldn’t be too surprised that Microsoft has confirmed that all Xbox One games that support 4K will download its 4K assets regardless if the display screen being played on is HD or a UHD.

In a conversation with Stevivor, a Microsoft spokesman confirmed the above and noted that games with 4K support – such as Forza Motorsport 7 – will receive patches with 4K assets: “With the launch of Xbox One X, when it comes to game content our intention is to download the correct assets to the correct console”

This means that “regardless of the TV you are playing on, 4K assets will be downloaded to Xbox One X (if available) and the standard 1080p assets will be downloaded to an Xbox One S.”

Forza Motorspot 7, for example, was one of the most visually outstanding games revealed during E3 2017, but the astonishing 4K textures and graphics come at the high cost of a hefty 100GB download, occupying one tenth of the Xbox One X’s 1 TB hard drive.

With that in mind, you’re probably worried about how long it will take you to download all this stuff, right? If this is the case, don’t start freaking out just yet.

Microsoft is already planning to implement adjustments to make those huge eternal game updates more efficient, as well as tools that will allow developers to make the update files less cumbersome.

Xbox One X will debut on November 7 and will be available for $499 USD.  However, any users currently playing with a 1080p screen and with no plans to update their console, also have nothing to worry about, since Microsoft is thinking of all their current consoles, and assuring that the arrival of Xbox One X will also mean improvements in the performance of games on Xbox One and Xbox One S.
