Killing Nazis Violently In Awesome 4K HDR: “Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus” Coming To Xbox
Juan Carlos Ropel, July 18, 2017
After the unveiling of Microsoft’s newest console, the Xbox One X, which will hit the shelves on November 7th of 2017, one of the most frequent questions is what older games will the Xbox One X be compatible with and which will make the most out of its full potential? And this potential is awesome, Gaming PC-level awesome: a monstrous 6 Teraflops graphics processor, 326 Gb/s bandwidth speed and 12GB of GDDR5 RAM.
One of these titles, completely designed to be fully compatible with HDR and thus display beautiful 4k UHD graphics –or lower, depending on the console–, is “Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus”, the upcoming first-person, Nazi-shooter video game developed by MachineGames and published by Bethesda Softworks.
Here is a look at the trailer as revealed at this year’s fairly recent E3 conference:
The fantastic and entertaining series of Wolfenstein’s titles are set in an alternate history on the 1960s Europe where the Nazis won the Second World War. The New Colossus follows the events of the previous game, “Wolfenstein: The New Order”. This sequel is set in 1961, in Nazi occupied America, where B.J. and the militant American resistance fight the Nazi war machine on American soil, trying to set up a Second American Revolution against the Nazi regime.
Wolfenstein: The New Colossus is set to be native 4K, but might use other technologies to improve performance such as super-sampling or checkerboarding. Furthermore, since the game is compatible with both Xbox One and also HDR/upscaled 4K-capable Xbox One S, its graphics can downscale as needed for non-4K displays and platforms.
As for gameplay, new mechanics include the ability to freely mix weapons for dual wielding, commanders being able to call in multiple reinforcements and a hatchet for more gruesome takedowns. You’ll be able to use high-tech weaponry such as the Laserkraftwerk, a multi-purpose, high-intensity laser weapon that can disintegrate Nazis, and the Dieselkraftwerk, a rapid-fire, gas-powered grenade launcher that can cause tons of damage to multiple enemies.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will release on October 27, 2017 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It’s already available on pre-order at Amazon.com for $49.99 for the PlayStation 4/PS4 Pro version and $59.99 for the Xbox version which will deliver in 4K HDR on the Xbox One X.
