Awesome, Ultra-Violent Sci Fi Movie “Dredd” Hitting 4K HDR Blu-ray Courtesy of Lionsgate

Each new 4K UHD Blu-ray movie release may not seem like much by itself, but the steady trickle of them coming out is starting to have some serious weight, particularly for 4K TV owners who aren’t lucky enough to enjoy ultra-high-speed internet and thus spend a couple hundred or more on a 4K Blu-ray player.

Thus, for these kinds of 4K TV owners and especially for those who love the more obscure side of the sci fi action thriller genre, the upcoming Lionsgate release of “Dredd” should be cause for a bit of excitement. Considering that the movie will be coming out with full 4K resolution and all the spectacle of HDR mastering, it’s bloodiest scenes will be redder and nastier than you’ve ever seen them before, and all that grime on everyone’s face in Dredd’s post-apocalyptic nightmare world will be delightfully nasty in a way you couldn’t appreciate even in theaters.

Awesome, Ultra-Violent Sci Fi Movie "Dredd" coming to Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray Courtesy of Lionsgate

Lionsgate has plans in the works for releasing dozens of 4K Blu-ray HDR titles in the near future but for now, Dredd is their first official offering and while it will for now only be released to U.S customers, the 4K Blu-ray format isn’t country coded, so you shouldn’t have a problem watching this particular flick anywhere in the world if you happen to pick up a copy while on vacation here. Furthermore, since “Dredd” never got the sort of major studio promotion many 4K Blu-ray blockbuster movie releases do upon its 2012 theatrical release, it’s priced pretty reasonably at $22.99 on pre-order right now. The movie becomes available as of June.

For those of you who haven’t seen or heard of the basic story behind the movie “Dredd” a really basic summary could go as follows: It’s the post-apocalyptic distant future, the world’s surviving people are crowded into absolutely awful megacities with predictably awful consequences involving insanely violent gangs and a lot of human misery. Some of the only law and order comes from equally violent and seriously hardcore, judges, police and executioners-rolled-into-one, and the meanest of them all is none other than Judge Dredd, the antihero of this movie. If you’re curious, here’s the original HD trailer.

Another upcoming UHD HDR Blu-ray release from Lionsgate will be the much more serious science fiction thriller Ex Machina, which explores the possibilities around deeply humanoid artificial intelligence slipping beyond control.

ultra violent? this movie was just okay. if u want to see something ultra violent, watch The Raid. In fact, Dredd looks like a clone of “The Raid”.
