The Huntsman: Winter’s War has only recently been released to theaters in the U.S (Since April 22nd) but it’s already up for pre-order in its 4K ultra HD Blu-ray, HD Blu-ray and DVD versions from Amazon.com

The online retail giant has the soon-to-arrive title on sale for $36.06 for the 4K BD version, $19.95 for the HD BD version and a marginally cheaper $17.96 for the conventional SD resolution DVD version of the movie.

Of course the new 4K BD version also includes the rich dynamic range, contrast and color enhancements of high dynamic range (HDR) technology and for those TV owners who have a 4k UHD HDR model television from 2015 or 2016 and of course one of Samsung’s or Panasonic’s 4K UHD Blu-ray players, the 4K version of this movie should look spectacular when it emerges. The DVD edition and HD Blu-ray copy can also be played on any existing 4K Blu-ray player but will not display in the richer HDR format that a 4K TV is capable of, since HDR is both display and content-based.

So far, we have no firm release date for “Winter’s War” and there are no real details on the sorts of additional 4K specs or bonus material that will come with the movie but Universal Studios (which is releasing a number of new 4K Blu-ray titles for 2016, along with a number of other studios) has clearly stated that all of their 4K Blu-ray titles would come with HDR encoding through Dolby Vision’s high dynamic range standard.

“Winter’s War” starts “Avengers” and “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth along with Jessica Chastain of “Zero Dark Thirty” fame and Charlize Theron, and is a sequel to the twice Oscar-nominated 2012 movie “Snow White and the Huntsman”.

As we have covered before on this site, Universal and numerous other major studios are all working to release what is expected to amount to well over 100 new 4K UHD Blu-ray disc titles for 2016 and early 2017.
