“Terminator 2” Will Be Back, In Theatrical 3D And As One Insanely Built 4K HDR Blu-Ray Package

Last July marked the 25th anniversary of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”, one of the most expensive and famous action sci fi movies of all-time. And this year, to celebrate, the sci-fi classic is being returned to theaters in 3D and also in 4K Blu-ray and 3D/2D Blu-ray releases,

The theatrical 3D re-release was originally planned for premiering the same year as its 25th anniversary, but it will finally hit theaters one year later this summer, as StudioCanal and DMG Entertainment announced. The 3D remastered version of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, will be in theaters on August 25 (just four days ahead of the anniversary of the day that Skynet become self-aware and took over Earth after launching a nuclear holocaust against humanity a.k.a. Judgment Day).

According to James Cameron himself, the remastered movie “looks pretty spectacular” and we’re inclined to believe this assessment given the inclusion of HDR and 4K details. In fact, owners of 4K HDR TVs will get to see this movie at a level of visual quality that’s never been enjoyed by anyone for the T2 sequel.

Here is the trailer:

After witnessing the 3D success of Avatar, James Cameron has been considering converting the film into 3D and in 2015 he made the announcement that the 3D conversion was actually happening.

“We’re talking about twenty-five years later,” he comments in the new trailer. “A lot of fans of the movie weren’t even born when it was made. So, for a lot of people, it will just be the thrill of seeing it in a movie theatre.”

But the celebration doesn’t stop there. StudioCanal have revealed that they are preparing 4K Blu-ray and 3D/2D Blu-ray releases of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”. To make things even more interesting, some of these will be released as part of a huge Limited Collector’s Eiditon EndoArm box set in the form of a literal and very cool endo-arm case similar to the Terminator’s now extremely famous exoskeleton arm shown during crucial scenes in the iconic movie. This awesome edition of only 6000 copies is expected to arrive to the markets later this year.

Terminator 2 4K HDR EndoArm

The Terminator 2 Endo Arm Edition contains 4 different DISCS, among which will be a 4K UHD HDR Blu-ray edition. The discs themselves also contain extensive commentary from director James Cameron and from stars Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor), Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800) and Robert Patrick (The T-1000), which include:

  • Reprogramming The Terminator documentary (including exclusive interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Cameron, Edward Furlong and many more)
  • 2 feature Commentaries.
  • The making of T2 –1993
  • Seamless Branching of the Theatrical cut, Director’s Cut and Special extended edition
  • 2 Deleted Scenes with audio commentary
  • Trailers
  • Original soundtrack CD

“Terminator 2 Judgment Day” will also be released in a much more economical standalone 4K UHD Blu-ray combo pack with Digital HD disc included on October 3 for a much more reasonable price of $22.99. Though of course you’ll miss out on that nifty collectors EndoArm bonus if you go for this version of the movie. We’re expecting all of these different T2 4K HDR and other Blu-ray copies to be available from online retailers like Amazon soon, likely for pre-order.
