Sony Xperia 3: Coming Soon With Rumors of Major 4K Features
by Stephan Jukic – August 4th, 2014
The Xperia Z2 has only been on sale to the public for a few months and Sony is already on the verge of releasing its successor, the Xperia Z3. And while the Z2 was one heck of a phone and considered a major competitor in terms of specs to other flagship 4K capable devices such as the Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8, the Xperia Z3 is expected to be a much more powerful machine.
The release of the Xperia Z3 has been in the air since at least May and it was around that same time that Sony announced that it would be going on sale in September. Now that September is just a month away, let’s take a look at some of the powerful and possibly unique 4K related features that are rumored for the Z3.
As one of the first companies to develop 4K technology in display screens, TVs and numerous accessory technologies with 4K built into them, Sony is obviously going to include 4K video recording in the Z3. The Z2 already has this feature and the flagship phones of the other major brands do as well, so 4K recording in the Z3 is a done deal.
However, one expected improvement on the 4K shooting capacity of Sony’s new phone is that it will be able to shoot more than just a few minutes in the format. Currently, the Z2 as well as other 4K capable phones on the market such as the Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3 and the HTC One M8 are all capable of shooting no more than 5 minutes of 4K content before overheating or simply cutting off the video record function. The Z3 is supposed to do away with this limitation in a major way.
For one thing, the phone is expected to come with an optional 64 GB internal memory for easy storage of massive 4K video files. Furthermore, its internal processing and RAM capacities are also expected to expand significantly. The processor in particular is expected to be a 64 bit variety, giving this phone essentially PC strength processing capacity.
4K Resolution, Finally!
Going beyond mere 4K video and photo shooting capacity, The Xperia Z3 is rumored to also include the novel feature of 4K screen resolution. Given that Sony is one of the pioneers and biggest sellers in the 4K resolution market, it shouldn’t be a surprise if they’re also the first company to break the 4K smartphone display market open.
Assuming the 4K display rumor is true, users who record their film clips in 4K format will finally be also able to play them like that right on the same phone –instead of having to upload them to a UHD capable TV or display monitor.
Even if 4K resolution rumors don’t pan out, the Xperia Z3 could art the very least come with 2K resolution, which would still be a massive improvement over the conventional Full HD now found in most high-end phones.
If the Z3 comes with 4K resolution as expected by many, it will beat out the also soon to arrive and 4K resolution rumored iPhone 6 as being the first smartphone with the format built into its screen.
