The KU6600 is one of Samsung’s 2016 mid-range 4K HDR TVs and it comes with a curved display. Now while we’re not especially fans of curved 4K TVs, we do love most of Samsung’s 2016 HDR TV models and can generally vouch for their quality. More importantly still, curved or flat, we love to hear about a 4K HDR TV selling for a very decent price. That’s the case with the 55 inch KU6600. Right now it’s down from a previous price of just under $950 to $799.99 at A $148 discount in other words. This isn’t a bad deal at all for a sizeable 55 inch TV like this.

The KU6600 may lack the premium HDR specs of its SUHD cousins from 2016 but it still has plenty going for it and offers up a superbly sharp 4K UHD resolution with one hell of an upscaling engine whose capacity for sharpening HD and even SD content sources is something we can vouch for from our many reviews of Samsung 4K UHD TVs.

Most importantly however, the KU6600 is one fantastic TV for console and PC gamers, with excellent input lag in all resolution formats and particularly while playing 4K games in HDR mode from consoles like the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One S. To be specific, with 4K and HDR activated, this TV hits just 19 milliseconds of input lag. It also supports a wide range of resolutions and color formats when connected up as a PC display, so if PC 4K gaming is your thing, this model is one excellent choice and one of the better 2016 4K high dynamic range TVs available. Best of all, for gamers and consumers using this TV with their consoles of PCs, the KU6600’s otherwise annoying curvature becomes a benefit if the screen is viewed from a close distance.

This model also comes with one of Samsung’s latest, highly user-friendly versions of the Smart Hub smart TV platform and offers bake-in content apps like Amazon Prime Instant video and Netflix, for access to hundreds of hours of 4K UHD and HDR content along with thousands of hours of upscaled HD movies, shows, documentaries and other excellent programming.

As for its overall display performance, what we can say about the KU660 is that it delivers the essentials wonderfully despite its lack of premium HDR specs. This stylish-looking 4K TV offers some of the best contrast ratios we’ve ever seen in an LCD 4K TV, offers excellent black levels and is reasonably bright in its display luminosity. Furthermore, while the KU6600 lacks wide color gamut, it does come with 10-bit color for a much more vibrant palette of 1.07 billion RGB color values. In basic terms, for the vast majority of conventional, 4K and HDR 4K content sources, you’ll get one great viewing experience that makes this model’s price tag of less than $800 very much worthwhile.

Once again, Amazon is now selling the UN55KU6600 for just $799.99 and in terms of value per dollar spent, we consider this to be a decent deal.

The 10 bit is definitely a typo.

No actually Chetan, the KU6600 does indeed offer 10-bit color through a dithering process, which is usually very effective at reproducing true 10-bit panel color. That said, the 10-bit color doesn’t appear unless the TV is being used to watch content mastered for this, so you won’t notice the effect for ordinary TV programming or non-HDR movies.
