Samsung Releases a More Affordable New 4K TV, the UE48HU7500
by Stephan Jukic – August 5th, 2014
Samsung is one of the pioneers in the development of advanced and very feature rich 4K TV technology. For this reason, their TV sets are also some of the more expensive ones to be found on the consumer market. However, this is now changing, in large part thanks to a wider trend of dropping 4K TV prices.
In the case of the UE48HU7500 the company has really outdone itself in terms of bringing a much lower priced but still superb 4K TV to the market. What the UE48HU7500 offers is not only a fully feature armed 4K TV package and all of the usual Samsung high quality but also gives these things to consumers at a truly low price for a 4K UHD TV set.
The only major tradeoff for the lower price is screen size, since this is a 48” inch set and not the usual 55” inches that are the case for most smaller 4K TVs.
Design and Features
This is, as already mentioned, a 4K” inch LCD TV with high end Samsung LED backlighting and native 4K UHD resolution at 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. It also comes with a full Smart TV package, extensive 4K video services and DLNA USB/network playback capacity. It gives its users Active 3D playback and 2 pairs of 3D glasses come included with the set.
The heavy duty metal stand of the UE48HU7500 is both visually appealing and highly versatile, and the ultra slim bezel that wraps around the screen maximizes its display space in a very elegant way that resembles a window into another reality (given the quality of the image display resolution).
Connectivity is plentiful and the UE48HU7500 features four HDMI ports, three USB ports and the ability to playback or record multimedia to USB HDD from the built-in Freeview HD and Freesat HD tuners. There’s also a LAN/WiFi network connection combo built into the set. Best of all, the HDMI connections are 2.0 grade, meaning that they can give you UHD at a much more respectable 60Hz that really allows you to enjoy fluid movement and color variation in full richness. This feature alone makes the HU7500 an excellent set for 4K sports playback, action video and 4K capable video games.
There’s also a second screen functionality that works great with Samsung’s smartphone/tablet TV companion application.
Best of all, the UE48HU7500 is fully enabled for HEVC decoding, meaning that you can watch the latest streaming 4K content from Netflix or Amazon Studios on your set without problems, assuming you have an internet connection of at least 15 Mbps.
While 48 inches is small enough so that some people argue it’s not ideal for 4K viewing, this doesn’t mean you won’t notice a difference at close distances. The 4K resolution is very much visible on this 48 inch TV and when put up next to any Full HD set the improvement is obvious to anyone who doesn’t have problems with their eyesight.
Given the price of the set, this new Samsung TV really makes the question of bothering to save money by buying conventional HD almost null. At $2,500 it is by no means a cheap TV bit it’s a lot closer to the price of HD TVs than what is normally the case with 4K UHD, especially when you consider that this set comes from one of the best manufacturers of Ultra high resolution on the market.
