If you are looking for an interesting and much more affordable alternative to popular 4k action cameras with integrated gimbals like DJI’s Osmo, which we reviewed here, or even recent Hero GoPro shooters with their separate GoPro Karma gimbals, then a Korean fundraising project started at Indiegogo is offering the Removu K1 self-Stabilizing camera with an integrated 3-axis gimbal and 4K recording. What’s more, it is even lighter and offers almost the same features as its competitors.

The Removu K1 comes with its own 1.5″ LCD screen to preview all photo or video shots and to conveniently operate the camera, removing the need to attach an external smartphone/tablet display. As for its shooting specs, the K1 uses a 1/2.3” CMOS 12MP (Sony IMX377) sensor that can capture the following video resolutions: 4K (3840×2160) @ 30fps, 2.7K (2704×1520) @ 30fps, FHD (1920×1080) @ 30/60/120fps and HD (1280×720) @ 30/60/120/240fps. It also captures decent slow-motion video in Full HD at 120fps.

Quite possibly the K1’s most convenient feature however is how it uses a 4-way joystick to smoothly adjust the direction of the camera exactly where you want it while its custom designed F2.8 wide angle lens helps ensure that everything you want to capture is in the shot. For this, the K1 offers 4 different recording modes: Pan, Follow, Motion time-lapse and Selfie mode.

The K1 is also extremely compact and lightweight, weighing in at only 340gr (12oz), and can easily be carried anywhere. It comes with an integrated microphone and a 3.5mm jack to connect the camera to an external microphone. It also comes with a removable battery capable of continuously recording for up to 4 hours (though not in 4K resolution) and it supports SD Cards up to 128GB to store the video or photo footage you grab with it.

There is also a K1 mobile app for iOS and Android which allows you to control the camera remotely, using most of its features, like taking shots, changing the camera settings, previewing your footage and remote-controlling the camera’s position.

As for its price, the Removu K1 can be currently acquired for $299 on its campaign site at Indiegogo, 25% less than its listing price. For an additional $29 you’ll get the Premium Accessory Kit, which includes high-sensitivity omni-directional microphones, a docking station, lens cover and some extra gear for the camera.
