Razer Blade Stealth 2017 13.3″ QHD Gunmetal Grey Edition & 14″ 4K Model Now Shipping
Stephan Jukic – August 15, 2017
Razer’s highly anticipated 2017 4K edition model is now finally coming to the U.S and Canada, and as the cherry on top of this consumer tech bonus, the company behind this superb laptop series is also shipping out a 13.3 inch gunmetal version with a QHD dsiplay and most of the same high performance specs.
13.3 Inch QHD Gunmetal Model
Let’s start our coverage off with the gunmetal model. The Razer Blade Stealth 13.3 inch gunmetal grey laptop is now shipping out to first-run buyers and while this specific version lacks the full 4K UHD screen of the 14 inch 2017 model, it does feature a QHD 3200×1800 pixel display that offers more than enough PPI for most performance laptop buffs out there. The new gunmetal model also offers a slight 0.7 inch display size bump from the also superb 4K UHD 12.5 inch 2017 version (which we reviewed here) and of course also comes with a touchscreen display.
The new color design of the 13.3 inch Blade Stealth was announced at E3 2017 in June and is basically aimed at users who want a slightly more professional non-gamer-looking version of the stealth. Thus this model also ditches the green glowing snake design and chroma keyboard of its predecessor. Other new 2017 specs of the 13.3 inch Razer Blade Stealth QHD model include the following:
- The already-mentioned 3200 x 1800 QHD display with IGZO technology (a new development as well)
- 50% smaller display bezels
- Gunmetal finish with white backlighting behind the keys (instead of multicolored keys such as those in the 14 inch2017 model and 12.5 4K edition)
- Precision touchpad
- 7th Generation Kaby Lake Core i7-7500U CPU (one serious power boost over older CPU models)
- Increased 9 hour battery power (subject to usage conditions)
- 16GB RAM (double the max 8GB capacity of last year’s model)
The gunmetal QHD Razer Blade Stealth QHD Edition laptop starts at a price of $1,399 USD and can be found on a number of online retailer websites including Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg and Microsoft.com. We should also note that this model comes with the latest version of Windows 10.
Razer Blade Stealth 2017 4K UHD Notebook
Next up and perhaps even more highly anticipated, there’s the shipping release of Razer’s 14 inch 4K UHD Blade Stealth laptop 2017 model. Back in February of 2017, Razer Announced this 4K UHD touchscreen update to their excellent 2016 notebook and this latest model is a shift upwards in specs and performance from the already-released matte 1080p 2017 model and Razer’s QHD version with Skylake CPU technology.
The 2017 4K UHD version comes with all the external design trimmings of the 14 inch 2016 4K UHD gaming notebook such as chroma keyboard, the green swirls and a full black body. Beyond these however, this year’s model also features the following heavy-duty specs:
- 14-inch IGZO 4K (3840 x 2160) glossy touch display
- Intel Core i7-7700HQ 2.8GHz (Turbo to 3.6GHz).
- 16GB DDR4 RAM
- NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB graphics
- Up to 1TB NVMe SSD
- Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C)
- 3 x USB 3.0 port
- HDMI 2.0
- Headphone and microphone combo
In other words, the 2017 model delivers a faster 7th Generation Kaby Lake version Core i7 CPU, a slightly superior RAM, the new 4K display with IGZO technology and a slightly quieter overall fan design.
Most importantly though, the update to Kaby Lake Core i7 chipset technology is worth noting because it means the inclusion of new 4K media handling technology through a dedicated Gen9.5 Media Architecture engine that boosts performance and power efficiency for 4K content with HEVC or VP9. In practical terms, this means that users will not only be able to stream YouTube videos with better battery performance on the 2017 Blade Stealth 4K model, they’ll also be able to use this little laptop for Netflix 4K UHD video sources due to its blend of specs.
The new 14 inch 2017 Razer Blade Stealth will also retail via from assorted retailers including Amazon.com with availability in the US and Canada as of September. It’s also going to go on sale in markets in the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, and China at the same time with a starting price of $2,399 USD.
