Philips Unveils New 4K UHD TVs With Android For CES & U.S Market In 2019

Just before CES 2019 launches in Las Vegas, Nevada in a couple days, a new pair of Philips 4K UHD TVs have been announced by the owners of the Philips TV brand in the U.S. The new Television models will basically bring Android TV support to the North American market and offer some fresh ultra HD TV product technology over here as well. This step itself is a long overdue thing considering how much other major brands like LG, Samsung, Sony, Vizio and TCL dominate on U.S sales.

Philips has already released TVs with Android TV to other markets such as Europe and other models also include Google’s Chromecast as a built-in technology.

In their January 2nd announcement, both Funai (who owns part of the rights to Philips TV technology in the U.S) and Philips itself have stated that they will be releasing two new unique series of 4K TVs for the U.S. These will be the Philips 4K UHD Android TV 5704 series and 5904 series. For both lines of new UHD TVs, screen sizes will range from a compact 43 inches to a giant 75 inch model. The new televisions will come with Android 8.0 Oreo and a pile of streaming media apps like Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Vudu, Google Play Movies & TV, Google Play Music and others will be available on them as well.

Another interesting feature of the upcoming Philips TVs, and an obvious one if you consider the Google technology in them, will also be the presence of Google Assistant. Both series will come with this and offer voice control functionality for the televisions themselves along with other household devices thanks to built-in near-field microphone. The 5704 and 5904 models will include Chromecast as a built-in technology too.

As for the display specs of both series, we can’t say much yet because we haven’t heard much either but Philips is confirming HDR10 support and at least some HDR specs for display of high dynamic range content.

The 5704 models are already being sold by “select retailers” according to Philips and the 5904 series TVs will start to hit stores and online electronics sites as of the second half of 2019. Both series will be available in 43, 50, 55, 65 and giant 75 inch versions. Their starting prices for the tiny 43 inch models are already or going to sit at (pending 5904 model releases) around $350, but the 5904 will be a pricier edition with somewhat better display specs. In other words, these new TVs will probably be comparable to similarly sized mid-range Samsung and Sony 4K UHD HDR TVs.

Philips will be showing off both the 5704 and 5904 4K HDR TVs at CES 2019 in case anyone wants an early look at the two newest upcoming brand additions to the U.S TV market.
