In the world of 4K PC displays, few models reach truly immense sizes like the BDM430UC from Philips, but for those of you who need a piece of 4K UHD workflow PC display technology that seriously delivers massive real estate without all the baggage of a 4K TVs smart platform, then this new Philips display is just what you might need.

TPV is the company which produces 4K monitors under the Philips brand and these types of massive workflow needs are exactly what they had in mind when they put together their BDM430UC 43 inch 4K display monitor. This thing is an absolute beast, with the screen size of a not-so-small 4K TV and some truly professional “prosumer” oriented specs. Best of all, despite all these features, this latest Philips monitor is also remarkably affordable at just $799. Considering that most much smaller and less decked-out 4K monitors we’ve reviewed here cost almost the same as the BDM430UC or even more despite having far more compact screens or fewer professional specs, the price of this latest Philips display is impressive indeed.

The BDM430UC or Philips UltraClear 43” as it’s also called offers a wide viewing angle IPS panel display with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and the added vibrancy of an W-LED backlight which allows the monitor an excellent average brightness of 300 nits and a very decent 1200:1 contrast ratio. Furthermore, the BDM430UC delivers a 60Hz refresh rate and comes with a number of other display enhancement technologies such as Philip’s Smart Uniformity display technology for correcting inconsistencies in the brightness of the monitor’s backlighting.

In addition to these specs, the BDM430UC delivers a very fast 5ms grey-to-grey response time, 10-bit color with 1.07 billion color variations and 100% sRGB coverage.

Connectivity-wise, the BDM430UC is also a marvel based on what we’ve read about it, especially when we compare its ports to what we normally see in many of the 4K monitor’s we’ve reviewed on the market. This big beast of a display offers up 1 D-Sub port, 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 2 MHL ports, 1 DisplayPort 1.2 port and a massive 4 port USB 3.0 hub with one of the ports supporting fast charging as well. The dual HDMI 2.0 ports alone are impressive enough for us considering that most 4K monitors even now still only support HDMI 1.4 for 4K resolution at only 30Hz, even as GPU technology for PCs moves into offering HDMI 2.0 connectivity for 4K @ 60Hz. Thus, the BDM430UC is very definitely future-proofed on this count.

There are even a couple of built-in 7 watt speakers for some decent native audio capacity and the BDM430UC also offers VES mounting capacity for placing it on a wall or hanging support.

In basic terms, the BDM430UC UltraClear 43” has just about everything any gamer, professional designer or just about anyone else could want in a 4K monitor and it’s simply huge to boot. And at just $799, this monitor is a definite steal in comparison to many other offerings we’ve seen.
