The Upcoming “Night Of The Living Dead” 4K Theatrical Restoration Looks Terrific
Stephan Jukic – October 1, 2017
Horror movie director legend George A. Romero may be among his beloved dead as of this year but his decades-long legacy in the screen scare business lives on in all sorts of unique ways. Most notably, for those of you who haven’t heard much about Romero, this is THE director who pretty much single-handedly invented what is today’s more popular than ever creeping zombie movie concept. And the movie that started this decades-long craze? None other than the original 1968 classic “Night of the Living Dead”.
Romero’s iconic low budget, huge impact film has been scaring audiences for longer than many of us have been alive and now it’s getting its best delivery yet in the movies decades-long history. This will be a full blown 4K ultra HD re-release of the original movie in remastered form to the big screen nationwide on October 13th, 2017. Genuine fans of the original with nostalgia for one of the defining movies of low budget horror probably can’t wait to go see Night of the Living Dead again in such a spectacular new format and curious horror lovers who’ve never seen this particular film now have their chance to do so in digitized 4K resolution for a level of visual quality that previous generations didn’t come even close to getting.
“Night of The Living Dead” follows along a plot that today seems pretty clichéd, but at the time both the movie’s improvised gore and tension-wracked plot were both considered pretty unique for their time). A small band of accidentally united survivors try to hole up in an isolated farm while fighting off an emerging and constantly growing horde of zombies whose unexplained origin and plodding, relentless ferocity are both work to create some very unsettling power in this small black & white masterpiece.
The new poster for the 4K release of “Night of the Living Dead” also does it some truly delightful justice, not only due to its awesomely classical B-movie style but also as a beautifully detailed symbol of what the zombie movie really embodies. Take a look, courtesy of the artist’s own twitter feed:
This landmark film in the development of modern horror movies will premiere Friday, October the 13th at New York City’s Film Forum and will from there be unveiled in Los Angeles on October 21 at a special Cinespia screening. This will be followed by a broader series of screenings nationwide, for which the complete list can be found here, in case you’re wondering if one of the venues happens to be near your home.
And for any fans of the bleakly fantastic original “Night of the Living Dead” who get a chance to see one of these limited 4K releases and read this, please feel free to let us know in the comments how the remastered edition spooked (or disappointed) on the big screen. We also can’t wait to see the 4K Blu-ray release we’re hoping for after this UHD theatrical unveiling.
