Streaming content giant Netflix reveals release of 14 new shows and films in 4K ultra HD
Stephan Jukic – July 25, 2015
Netflix, as one of the real leaders in the advancement of 4K OTT content across the web to a worldwide audience of fans, has already established a pretty sizeable library of TV shows, movies and its own original series in the ultra HD format. However, plans obviously involve the continuous growth of this entertainment menu and 4K TV owning subscribers to the Netflix Family Plan can be happy knowing that the company has now revealed a launch schedule for new Original content right through to all of 2016.
The really good thing here is that a large percentage of this new content will be presented in 4K resolution and that it won’t just consist of new TV shows but also include at least a couple of movies.
As we examine these new upcoming content offerings, we can see that the streaming media company will likely start things off with a new series called “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp”, which will be released as of July 31st. Shortly after, on August 28th, this will be followed by “Narcos” another series which follows the criminal adventures and violence of the late Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Moving along, we can expect still more content for December of 2015 in the form of a 4K version of “A Very Murray Christmas”, a film that, obviously, features Bill Murray. And after that, the next item on the menu is apparently another movie: “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend”, which will be available to subscribers as of March, 2016.
Of course, the above are only some of the shows and movies whose launch dates have been more solidly established. In addition to them are several titles with more vague release dates. These include: “Chelsea Handler ‘Docu-Comedy’ Specials, coming in 4K UHD before 2015 ends, and then “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” series, also planned for some time near the end of 2015 or early 2016.
Other series with still ambiguous 2016 launch dates include “Flaked”, a comedy series of 8 episodes written by and starring Will Arnett and “Fuller House”, a family comedy starring Candace Cameron Bure which will be emerging over 13 episodes.
Then there’s “The Get Down”, which is also a 13 episode series that’s been scheduled for release in ultra HD 4K some time in 2016. This show deals with the exploits of a bunch of teenagers trying to become hip hop stars in the Bronx during the early days of this music.
Furthermore, we can also expect a second season of “Marco Polo” to emerge in 4K UHD at some point and a children’s show based on Dr. Seuss’s famous book “Green Eggs and Ham”.
On the other hand, really popular shows like “Better Call Saul”, “Daredevil” (the second season) and the extremely popular “House of Cards” aren’t mentioned in the list of upcoming content, though they will definitely be coming and in full 4K resolution since this is how these shows have already been presented to audiences in the current Netflix lineup.
There are also other shows slated for purely HD releases and of the entire new content list, only less than 30% will be emerging in 4K resolution, at least for now.
