Meet The New, Highly Affordable Yi Lite 4K UHD Action Camera, The Yi 4K’s Cousin

YI Technology is introducing Yi Lite, a new, highly affordable 4K action camera that can be stablished between Yi’s first generation action camera and the Yi 4k (check out our review of this rather remarkably good and affordable action camera here), with a combination of features from both.

The Yi Lite is the even more affordable sibling of the Yi 4K, with a significantly lower price and with some of its key specs. For instance:

Although the Yi Lite comes in a light, compact design, the manufacturer has managed to integrate a 2.0”, 320×240 resolution LCD touchscreen to operate the camera, built-in with a 16-megapixel backlit Sony Exmor Image Sensor that shoots 1080p at a full 60fps framerate. The Yi Lite can also shot 4K, but it’s at just a 15fps compared to the Yi 4K’s more standard 30fps for smoother motion. Not a very enthusing framerate for shooting 4k UHD action video but still tolerable for some basic recording action in Ultra HD.

The Yi Lite also features image stabilization to aid in smoother footage, particularly in 1080p at 60fps and in 2K at 30fps. Like the stabilization introduced on the GoPro Hero 5, the Yi Lite’s stabilization is also electronic, which means the footage is slightly cropped to get that effect, instead of being optically stabilized, which would have been better and which is the case in some of Sony’s pricier Action cameras.

The Yi Lite’s connectivity capabilities do however give you seamless connectivity to your smartphone so you can upload your footage straight to your favorite social media platform. The micro HDMI port is similar to YI 4K and YI 4K+. It also includes built-in Wi-Fi and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy).

All of the above features of this action camera are powered by a 1200mAh lithium battery that provides up to 140 min of recording at 1080p/60fps and about a third of that if you decide to go for the somewhat disappointing [email protected] recording settings.

If you’re interested in what you’re hearing about this little action camera, there’s some further good news: the Yi Lite 4K camera is already available for pre-order on Amazon at the price of $135. The camera will be in stock and start shipping on July 20, 2017. Given the excellent specs and performance we noted in our review of the Yi 4K camera in 2016, we’re expecting some fairly decent performance from this new and more economical little device.
