One Of LG’s Best Ever OLED 4K HDR TVs Is Priced Lower Than Ever Right Now
Stephan Jukic – December 13, 2018
Why do we consider the LG C8 to be one of the best OLED TVs ever made? Because it is if you consider its blend of price and performance. Sure, LG also created three other models (the E8, G8 and W8 ultra-premium wall TV) for its 2018 lineup, and Sony also pulled off its own two OLED 4K HDR TVs, the A8F and the Master Series A9F in late 2018. But in comparison to all of these other much more expensive OLED 4K HDR editions, the C8 performs almost identically in most key specs, and with the latest processing engine while costing quite a bit less than any of the others.
That’s right, almost identically, because a curious thing that we’ve found about OLED 4K TVs for any given year is that their brightness, color performance and other major display specs that really make up TV purchase quality are all almost entirely uniform across the whole lineup. In other words, while the pricier E8, G8 or W8 LG OLED editions might come with cooler physical designs or better sound systems, they just barely (almost imperceptibly) outperform a cheaper model like the C8 on the specs that count most. Thus, you can get ultra-premium OLED HDR picture quality at prices that don’t shatter your bank account.
In the case of the C8 OLED, we’re still talking about a 4K TV that’s far from budget-priced but by the standards of its cousins, this model is remarkably affordable and the 65 inch version in particular is going for a great price tag right now on Amazon.com. The discount being applied to it isn’t huge at just 7% but that still amounts to $200 off an HDR OLED TV with ultra HD resolution that was already the best deal for its quality in 2018.
What do the C8 and OLED technology in general offer? Well, because organic light emitting diodes create their own light inside each pixel on the TV’s screen, you can get perfectly precise, pixel-level dimming for onscreen content with absolutely no clouding or halo effects around high contrast content scenes. No LCD TV can quite match this level of picture quality. Furthermore, the C8 is one of the brightest OLED TVs ever made and, like all OLED televisions we’ve reviewed in recent years, it offers extraordinarily good handling of onscreen motion, as well as superb connectivity performance for gaming in case you want to hook your console up to it.
We can’t recommend this 4K OLED TV model enough and really do think it offers superb value at the price the 65 inch edition is selling for right here:
