LG’s new 31 Inch 4K monitor going on sale this week, includes Mac and Thunderbolt support

On Tuesday the 28th of October, electronics maker LG unveiled the latest in its line of 4K display products, the 31 inch LG 31MU97 Digital Cinema 4K monitor.
The company, which is known for its Ultra HD TVs and even famous for its new and revolutionary line of OLED 4K TVs, has created a very high end new PC display with the new monitor.
With its Cinema Grade resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels, the new Digital Cinema monitor offers roughly 2 million more pixels than what’s found in a conventional Ultra HD 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160. Given this and the fact that the new monitor is designed to be compatible with Mac and Thunderbolt both, it’s no surprise that it has the same $2,499 price tag as Apple’s 27 inch iMac computer with a 5K retina display.
Of course however, going for the iMac option also gives you an entire computer instead of just a screen to play with.
The price of the new LG monitor may be steep, but its selling points are numerous. For one thing, the compatibility with Mac computer and Thunderbolt could offer a strong lure to Mac users who want a bigger 4K screen than the native display that comes with the new iMac.
And this size on the LG monitor is indeed a major selling point. Its beautiful 31 inch IPS display includes Maxx Audio and Adobe RGB Color Space for supposedly more brilliant picture quality and excellent color accuracy. Furthermore, at 31 inches, the display will work well with Windows machines because the Windows OS interface will scale much better on the screen than it would on a smaller UHD monitor.
LG is aiming the new monitor at designers and other visual media professionals by promoting the excellent image scaling, ergonomic design and numerous screen adjustability features that minimize the need for scrolling and cursor dragging. Furthermore, video media editing will be easier and more accurate thanks to built-in DCI color standard support, according to LG.
“This monitor’s high-end features and functions make it the perfect solution for professionals who require a top-of-the-line monitor with all the technology currently available”, according to Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT business department at LG.
The monitor’s IPS display technology is designed tu give support for 99.5% of the Adobe RGB color space and also includes several coloring modes that are ideally suited for the needs of graphic design and editing professionals. The 31MU97 also offers a Dual Color Space option that lets users split the monitor display so that it shows two different color modes at the same time for the sake of easier comparison.
Other high-end capabilities of the LG 31MU97 include the ability to edit 4K content in ideal Digital Cinema resolution without image scaling and DCI color standard support that reproduces colors realistically by covering 97% of the DCI-P3 color space, which is the standard for digital cinema projectors and cameras.
According to LG, the 31MU97 4K monitor will be available for sale as of this week in the U.S, South Korea, Germany, the UK and Australia. Other countries in Europe and Japan will follow shortly afterwards.
