Latest LG G5 rumors and Samsung Galaxy S7 with 4K display possible for MWC 2016
Stephan Jukic – January 28, 2016
Speaking of rumors about small mobile devices with 4K display technology, The 2016 Mobile World Congress could be the place and time where a couple of this year’s most anticipated smartphones get unveiled to the public, with one of them, the Samsung S7 emerging with a highly anticipated 4K display, similar to that of Sony’s Xperia Z5 Premium phone, the only model on the market with 4K resolution in its screen.
The Mobile World Congress is coming up between the 22nd and 25th of February in Barcelona Spain and we’re looking forward to the possibility of two of the world’s foremost manufacturers of premium top-shelf smartphones going head to head in an effort to replace their respective flagship models for 2015, the LG G4 and the Samsung Galaxy S6.
For its part, LG hasn’t yet confirmed that their 2016 replacement to the G4 phone will actually be called the G5 but we do know that the latest flagship model which serves as a G4 replacement will indeed be unveiled at the MWC in Barcelona and according to leaks posted on Reddit in the last days of 2015, the new device will not only come with a beautifully crisp new 1140p (2560 x 1440) 5.3 inch display, it will also offer up three powerful cameras. These consist of two rear shooters at 16 and 8.3 megapixels respectively and a front-facing “selfie” camera which offers 8 megapixel shooting.
Furthermore, there are expectation of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GB of RAM, which would make the potential “G5” for 2016 into one truly powerful piece of phone technology, since Snapdragon 820 chips have been designed to handle even 4K display in mobile devices.
And speaking of 4K display in mobile devices, we now move to the even more interesting MWC 2016 rumors for Samsung’s even more anticipated Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone.
These aren’t at all confirmed and other information we’ve picked up at 4K.com gives evidence that Samsung won’t pursue 4K smartphone display in the S7 and wil instead opt ofr a 1440p screen like that of the G5. Furthermore, we’ve also heard that neither Samsung or LG will pursue 4K visuals in any 2016 phone but in the interests of rumor mill completeness, according to leaks posted by the Chinese social network Weibo and then picked up by other media points, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 (not its official name, which hasn’t yet been released), might just arrive on the scene with a 4K ultra HD display, like the Sony Xperia Z5 of 2015. Along with this whopping display resolution, the new Samsung phone is also expected to feature a quad-core processor, a twin sensor camera module which will come from Sony technology and some very powerful image and video capture capacity.
In any case, less than a month left before the 2016 Mobile World Congress, where we do indeed expect 4K video and display technology to play a larger than ever role in smartphones and other mobile device technologies.
