“Labyrinth”, with David Bowie is coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray

For those of you who are serious fans of the late David Bowie in any artistic endeavor aside from just his enormous musical contributions, the upcoming 30th anniversary release of the classic 1986 fantasy movie “Labyrinth” to 4K UHD HDR Blu-ray disc through Amazon.com might be a bit of interesting news.
For anyone who doesn’t know about “Labyrinth”, the film is a classic of the rather odd fantasy fiction movie style commonly produced during the 1980’s and also stars a very young Jennifer Connelly as its protagonist. Of course, today the movie is probably more famous for the unusual role played by David Bowie as a villain in the plot.
Labyrinth tells the story of a young teenage girl (played by Connelly) who is put through some nasty magical circumstances and forced into a desperate against the clock attempt to save the life of her baby brother who is being held in a vast mythical labyrinth by the so-called Goblin King (played by Bowie), who wants to take both Connelly and the baby away from the human world forever.
While Labyrinth was a bit of a cinematic disappointment after its original theatrical release in the late 80’s, the movie went on to become an odd cult classic among a generation of millennials who remember this particular movie as an integral part of their childhood entertainment landscape. Following David Bowie’s fairly recent death, the film has taken on even more vaguely historical appeal as one of the more unusual performances the music legend participated in.
Consumers who want to enjoy Labyrinth and the many other new-release 4K BD disc titles coming out from 2016 onwards will however have to get their hands on a 4K TV with HDR and one of the new 4K UHD Blu-ray disc players that are also now on sale. The most affordable example of these being the Samsung UBD-K8500 media player.
Among the many new-release 4K UHD Blu-ray movies coming out in 2016, Labyrinth will be one of an also growing collection of older classical movies to also hit the digital 4K HDR media format, along with other iconic 80’s and even older titles like “Ghostbusters”, Akira Kurosawa’s “The Seven Samurai” and “Lawrence of Arabia”.
Labyrinth itself will be hitting store shelves and online order delivery as of September 30th, 2016, so there’s still a fair bit of waiting to do here.
4K UHD Blu-ray itself is promising to become THE top-shelf media format for viewing 4K video in its most spectacular visual capacities. Featuring the sharpness of 4K resolution at 3840 x 2160 pixels and the combining it with the even more impressive visual specs of high dynamic range for 4K content, 4K HDR Blu-ray delivers a movie viewing experience that’s like nothing yet seen on home entertainment displays to-date.
