Joseph Gordon-Levitt is participating in a new 4K short film shot entirely with the Samsung NX1

Samsung isn’t best known for its camera products among enthusiasts and Samsung fans as well but with the upcoming NX1 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the company has really promised some powerful specs and features that are designed to compare well even with better known 4K digital camera models.
Overall, the camera is promising some very high end photo and video quality. Given that it can shoot not only Full HD at 1080p but also full Cinema Grade 4K video (4096 x 2160 pixels) and 4K Ultra HD resolution at 3840 x 2160 pixels, it should deliver powerfully on its video specs.
In order to prove that its new NX1 camera really does deliver the goods, especially with its 4K video technology, Samsung has gone ahead and hired none other than Joseph Gordon Levitt and his production company HitRECord to make a short 4K movie on the NX1.
Gordon-Levitt, who has starred in several shows and movies such as “Third Rock from the Sun” and the Hollywood hit “Inception”, will be directing a short movie called “In the City” using only the Samsung NX1 camera at its Cinema Grade 4K setting.
According to Samsung, the movie will feature Gordon-Levitt travelling across various cities around the world and hitting their streets to explore the daily rhythm of life amongst the people who inhabit these places.
The essence of the film will be aimed at capturing the experiences and interactions that create the distinct nature of each city’s residents and their environment.
At the very least, the movie should nicely present the video shooting capacity of the camera, even if it’s not necessarily Academy Award material.
Levitt’s company HitRECord will also make use of crowd-sourced content from various media arts industry professionals such as musicians, cinematographers and other professionals. Those who want to participate in the production of the short film can actually apply by clicking here.
According to Joseph Gordon-Levitt himself in a recent statement, “ Cinematography is one of the most powerful aspects of filmmaking. To visually express the mood of a scene or moment is as essential to storytelling as a script, or an actor’s performance. When you’re creating art, it’s important to know that your tools will match your ambition, and that you can rely on the technology to enable, not limit your artistic vision”.
Samsung’s NX1 is going to be the only tool used to actually film Levitt’s short film, so if the end result is something that truly impresses with its visual and atmospheric appeal, then this, combined with the actor’s star power should create a strong promotional impact on both amateur and even possibly professional film makers.
Samsung plans on releasing the movie on December 11th, 2014 and will show the film on its Facebook page, where news and updates on production can be found until this date.
