Independence Day. Resurgence already on pre-order in 4K UHD Blu-ray
Stephan Jukic – June 27, 2016
The sequel to the 1996 sci fi hit “Independence Day” has just recently emerged in theaters across North America but this hasn’t stopped the creators of “Independence Day: Resurgence” from already having the movie available on pre-order as a 4K UHD Blu-ray copy, as well as on DVD, HD Blu-ray and even VHS.
The sequel to the 1996 smash box office hit science fiction movie with Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman goes back to the hostile alien invasion theme of the first movie and with several of the same core cast members. This time around, while humans have adopted the powerful technology left over by the vanquished, vicious extraterrestrial attackers from the original story, our world is forced back into a new war against an even great alien revenge force and its once again immense starships. The resulting story is a rollercoaster of destruction, explosions and stunning futuristic combat action.
In other words, the currently theatrical sequel to “Independence Day” is the perfect sort of movie for really appreciating UHD resolution and high dynamic range at work in a 4K Blu-ray disc and in full splendor on the latest 4K UHD TVs if you have one in your home.
As is the case with pretty much all 2016 4K UHD Blu-ray disc movie releases and most streaming 4K movie releases today, “Independence Day: Resurgence” will be going on disc with full Dolby HDR formatting and of course features 4K resolution, likely upscaled from a native 2K original filming resolution, though many movies are now also filmed in native 4K or at even higher pixel counts. All existing and soon to arrive 4K Blu-ray players are already designed to handle the HDR formatting of new release UHD Blu-ray disc media and many of the higher—end 4K TVs for 2016 likewise support this new format.
In terms of sheer stunning picture quality, an HDR version of any newer movie renders far more beautifully on the home theater screen than any normal SDR 4K or normal HD version of the same content. However, movie buffs who want to enjoy the best of new HDR 4K BD disc releases like “Independence Day: Resurgence” and the numerous other titles we’re going to see come out in 2016 will also need to own a 4K TV with high dynamic range integration.
TVs with this kind of top-shelf HDR of the same caliber as that used in movies like the Blu-ray Independence Day sequel include Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TVs, Sony’s 2016 4K models, LG’s newer OLED 4K TVs and the excellent Vizio P-Series 2016 HDR televisions.
“Independence Day: Resurgence” and other 4K HDR titles like it are pretty much designed to offer their best possible visuals on such TVs, often of such quality that their visuals look even better than they did during their original theatrical screenings. The “Independence Day sequel will be shipping to customers in the coming months and readers who want to reserve a copy in advance can do so on Amazon for $26.99.
