Take a look at Ideum’s futuristic new 4K UHD Multitouch Tablet table
Stephan Jukic – April 2, 2015
Imagine a 4K TV screen if it were crossed with a PC and a small dining table… Well, this is exactly what you get from the latest piece of technology by New Mexico-based hardware/software company Ideum.. The highly versatile multi-touch table known as the Pro Lab is not only very fast, expandable and powerful, it also looks like something straight out of a Star Trek episode.
The active 3D LED LCD touch screen display comes with a full 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and sits perched on top of a computer crammed pedestal that can come with up to an absolutely whopping 24 terabytes of removable storage memory!
This machine definitely isn’t designed for your average home user and its main target market is more along the lines of a professional market that involves interactive museum exhibits, computer gaming simulations and processing intensive visual applications that require simulations and visualizations of heavy duty graphics at lightning speed.
The Pro Lab table includes the same type of responsive touch technology found in most high end smartphones and tablets but simply scales it up to almost unheard of levels that are only comparable with those found in massive corporate conference touch screens like Microsoft’s Surface Pro or BenQ’s UHD flat panel LED Display (both of which also come with touch screens and a 4K resolution)
Ideum claims that their Pro Lab’s 55 inch projected capacitative touch screen (P-CAP in short) won’t be disturbed by interference from external light, can handle up to 100 touch points at the same time and can respond in as quickly as 5 minutes.
Furthermore, the screen is housed inside an aluminum frame that is not only tough but also elegantly thin at 1 inch around the edges and thickening to 2 inches towards the interior. In other words, according to Ideum, the Pro Lab is the world’s thinnest large-screen multi-touch display system.
As for the tablet screen’s internal computing hardware, we’re talking about one very heavy duty piece of machinery. It comes with an Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB of DDR3 RAM and enough space for three different removable hard drives totaling up to as many as 24 terabytes of storage memory. This means that a truly enormous amount of books, video, graphics and images can be kept inside this relatively compact piece of machinery.
Additionally, the Pro Lab comes loaded with Windows 8.1 Professional, a high-powered Yamaha sound system, Full WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth wireless communication and an RFID reader. It even comes with its own built-in uninterruptible power supply for emergencies in which the external electrical grid fails!
Finally, and this is to be expected, the Pro Lab is certainly not a low-priced piece of professional tech hardware. Company CEO Jim Spadaccini has told Gizmag.com that the Table, loaded with the full amount of possible storage memory will retail for something around $24,000.
Oh, and it’s already available for sale. The first units will be shipping during this first week of April.
