Here Is the GoPro Hero 6 Action Camera With 4K at 60FPS
Stephan Jukic – September 14, 2017
Fans of GoPro’s best-selling lines of 1080p and 4K UHD action cameras now have a nice meaty chunk of leaked information to chew on as of today, and best of all, this particular bit comes with some very clear photos.
According to photos sent to the website Photo Rumors very recently by a reader, the GoPro Hero 6 is on the way and it’s going to offer 4K video recording at 60 frames per second. The pictures are crystal clear, as you can see below and they definitely look like images of the real deal. In fact, it’s hard to imagine someone going through the trouble of faking them anonymously for no apparent gain. Even before these leaks, we could be fairly sure that another GoPro was on the way sooner or later and the timing of the leaked images of a completed, packaged model almost perfectly coincides with the action camera maker’s 2016 release date of the GoPro Hero 5 Black, which was unveiled on September 19th of last year.
Assuming the leaked photos are the real deal, the new camera looks very similar to its Hero 5 predecessor and offers some of the same essential specs, including 12 megapixel still photo shooting, and an integrated waterproof body that lets it submerge down to about 33 feet. Best of all if these images are true, the new camera is close enough to the previous model in its design that we think most Hero5 accessories will be compatible with the Hero 6. This is great news for anyone who already spent a bundle on such additional parts but would like to spend a bit extra for the much better 60FPS on 4K video that this model should offer.
Even previous statements by GoPro CEO Nick Woodman give credibility to a very soon-to-arrive GoPro Hero 6: In February of this year Woodman had strongly hinted at a 2017 Hero 6 release:
Yes, we can confirm there will be new cameras and other accessories released in 2017…… [That] new camera namely being HERO6.”
As for possible pricing or a concrete release date, we can’t be sure of either but we’re thinking it’s likely that GoPro will formally unveil the new camera before this month ends. Given the current and still best selling GoPro Hero 5 Black’s Amazon price tag of $399, we’re assuming that the Hero 6 will cost somewhere north of this but less than $500. We might even see a reduction in the Hero 5 Black model’s existing price as soon as version 6 emerges.
We reviewed the GoPro Hero 5 in early 2017, here, and consider it to be one very strong performer on the 4K UHD action camera market. You can check that particular review out here. The Hero 5 records 4K footage at 30fps or less.
