Even though Gears of War 4 was launched last year and it was revealed to us that the game will run at 4K on Xbox One X though we didn’t at first know any specifics about its enhancements. However, Gears of War’s developer, The Coalition has now finally revealed this list of game improvements, and they include 4K resolution, HDR support, and a variety of other visual and performance augmentations.

The Coalition has been working hard to maximize the juice out of today’s soon-to-be-public world’s most powerful console. Perhaps the most interesting addition to the Xbox One X’s version of Gears of War 4 is the ability for players to choose from two rendering options for either prioritizing the quality of the graphics or the performance of the game. In other words, in “Preferred Rendering” mode you can select “Visual” or “Perfomance”.

If you choose “Performance”, Gears of War will play at up to 60fps in 1080p in Campaign and Horde mode, including all high-quality textures and some new graphics. This is a huge improvement, since Campaign and Horde were only possible for play at 30FPS previously in older consoles.

If you prefer “Visual”, this mode will prioritize visuals and will use very high-quality textures and tons of new and improved graphical enhancements, all at a notably fine 4K resolution (3840×2160). But in this mode the game will run only at 30fps for the Campaign and Horde modes. However, for Versus mode, the game will always run 4K at 60fps (with adaptive resolution scaling) regardless of the rendering type you select.

Also, when you install the update you will notice that the game gives you the option to play it in true 4K (3840×2160) and HDR. This is not only good for owners of 4K screens and 4K HDR TVs. Thanks to the console’s supersampling technology, even if you’re playing on a 1080p screen, you’ll get the benefits of texture improvements, faster framerates, and improved image quality.

The Coalition is also bringing other visual enhancements such as Enhanced Light Shafts, Dynamic Shadows, Increased Draw Distances, Superior Reflections and Enhanced Character Textures. And in case you think graphics wasn’t enough, The Coalition has also included Dolby Atmos support to provide a better audio experience for owners of TVs and sound systems which support this advanced sound system format.

Furthermore, here is the spectacular trailer of Gears of War 4 Enhanced, which shows exactly how greatly the game graphics have been augmented:
