Forza 3 Recieves 4K Resolution Upgrade Via Xbox One X Patch

Another game enters the ultra HD fold for the Xbox One X super console. Today Turn 10 Studios finally unleashed the Xbox One X patch for Forza Horizon 3 and not only does this upgrade deliver native 4K graphics to the already impressive looking game, it also enhances various other visual effects.
Thus, while Forza Horizon 3 was always a visually stunning game before the patch, it now further gets augmented by the general and noticeable resolution increase, better effects for things such as reflections and better overall visuals even if you’re playing Forza Horizon 3 on a regular 1080p display or TV with the Xbox One X. In other words, Microsoft’s promise that their new console will deliver impressive gameplay benefits even to gamers who don’t use the console with a 4K UHD HDR TV is being fulfilled by the looks of it (literally).
To complement the update patch improvements to Forza 3, Microsoft also unveiled a new trailer that shows off what the game can now do and accompanied it with the following lengthy explanation:
“Forza Horizon 3 on Xbox One X is powered by the same state-of-the art ForzaTech engine at the heart of the Forza franchise, also used to develop Forza Motorsport 7 for Xbox One X which brought native 4K resolution racing to the new platform. Forza Horizon 3 enhancements let players experience the game in native 4K along with a host of additional visual updates, including improved car reflections and shadow resolutions, improved texture detail for road and terrain surfaces, and more. In addition, 4K resolution enhancements will be fully compatible with both Blizzard Mountain and Hot Wheels expansions for Forza Horizon 3. Whether you’re careening across the dunes of the Outback in your favorite off-roader or building up a legion of fans with death-defying stunt driving in the rainforest, the 4K-enhanced version of Forza Horizon 3 is a thrilling blend of fantastic gameplay and cutting-edge visuals.”
The gaming site Digital Foundry also conducted its own analysis of Forza Horizon 3 under the new 4K patch and claimed that the game does indeed manage native ultra HD graphics with the One X console and when hooked up to a 4K TV. In other words, checkerboarding and dynamic resolution scaling aren’t being used here to trick the eye. It’s the real deal.
On the negative side, there is no 4K at 60FPS option for the upgraded Forza despite the fact that the Xbox One X is perfectly capable of handling this for many 4K games. Instead, the console is locked at 30FPS for this particular experience. This might be due to CPU constraints in the Xbox One X console for this particular title and it might also be an oversight by 10 Studios. Whichever is the case, the patch is worth getting if you’re a 4K TV or PC owner who has the Xbox One X and already liked Forza 3 as it was before this.
