Jetpacks have been a dream of science fiction authors and people from all walks of life for decades. Now they’ve actually become something of a reality, a soaring beautiful reality that also happened to get caught on video with a 4K camera just a few days ago in Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates.

If you’ve never heard of a man named Yves Rossy but among fans of jetpack technology he’s definitely well-known and his videos have been a hit on YouTube for several years now as he pioneered the art of flying over varied landscapes and capturing it on camera. Rossy also happens to be one of the only people in the world with functional jetpack technology under his belt, or actually, strapped to his back here and there, and the thing is, he’s really damn good at flying these still highly experimental machines.

From videos of Rossy buzzing along next to a B17 bomber to footage of him circling Mount Fuji in Japan or soaring above the immense, gaping Grand Canyon, all of Rossy’s videos are impressive, but the latest of a duo flight over the glittering supertall towers of Dubai is probably the most spectacular so far.

Furthermore, the video of his flight over one of the most luxurious cities in the world was captured by both an HD camera shooting from a plane that followed the adventure and in ultra HD 4K from the GoPro Hero 4K action cameras attached to the helmets of Rossy and just “jetman” protégé Vince Reffet.

These jetpacks are no joke and as you watch the two pilot’s twists and turns first over the desert and then among Dubai’s enormous towers, bear in mind that these guys are soaring along at more than 120 miles per hour! This and the sheer clarity of the footage make for video sequences that will really give you goosebumps if you’re afraid of heights.

Here’s the 4K footage right here, turn it on, throw it up to full screen mode on your 4K monitor screen and switch the resolution to full 4K… You will be amazed by what you see.
