“Deadpool” on pre-order for 4K UHD Blu-ray release in May
Stephan Jukic – April 07, 2016
The number of new 4K UHD Blu-ray titles is growing almost daily it seems, despite initial assumptions of limited selections from major studios participating in the production of movies in the new 4K ultra HD disc format.
Now, to add to the expanding pile of movies and particularly of recently theatrical movies, “Deadpool” is also joining the rest on store shelves and in online retail catalogues.
The 2016 comic book action movie was a massive box office success and broke several box office records as the highest grossing X-Men movie yet made, the second highest grossing film of 2016 to-date and as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time to-date.
The movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds as its titular mutant antihero tells the story of Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative who works as a mercenary for hire in NYC and who is also transformed by unusual circumstances into a super-powered mutant who goes by the name of Deadpool. In addition to having been widely praised by many critics as uproariously funny through a heavy dose of black humor, the movie is also exceptionally violent by the standards of Marvel comics-derived movies.
Now, following its enormously profitable and successful box office release, the latest movie in the Marvel Universe is coming to 4K ultra HD Blu-ray as of May 10th and is already available on pre-order from Amazon.com for a retail price of $29.99 for the 4K Blu-ray disc format with High Dynamic Range encoding as well. There will also be an HD Blu-ray release retailing for $22.99 and a DVD version for $19.99, all shipping on the same date.
20th Century Fox, the distributing and production studio behind “Deadpool” and its 4K Blu-ray release, is also one of the main Hollywood studio backers of 4K ultra HD Blu-ray disc media on the consumer market, with a number of other remastered and new release 4K titles planned for 2016 and into next year.
