“Blade Runner 2049” Now Available For Pre-Order In 4K HDR Ultra HD Blu-ray

Denis Villeneuve’s visually stunning and already very highly rated sequel to the iconic 1982 cult classic “Blade Runner” is still pulling audiences in theaters nationwide with both its incredible images and its star studded cast, yet Amazon already has the 4K UHD Blu-ray disc version ready for pre-sale. The visually hypnotic film in a 4K Blu-ray HDR release would if anything make one even impressive piece of home entertainment for anyone who also happens to own the right kind of ultra HD television with full high dynamic range visual specs. This is because HDR movies, when watched on a high quality 4K high dynamic range TV, deliver more color and contrast performance than many commercial movie theaters (excepting, of course, the sheer screen size factor of theater).
The movie “Blade Runner 2049”, starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford and Jared Leto among others, picks up several decades after the first movie left off with a much younger Deckard (played by Harrison Ford) going off into hiding with his lover, the replicant Rachel. The sequel’s director, Villeneuve is already famous for his emotionally, visually and atmospherically stunning work on the recent alien invasion science fiction release “Arrival”, as well as the crime drama “Sicario”, which both garnered accolades for their visuals and emotionally charged storylines. “Blade Runner 2049 has been getting very similar reviews and has largely been praised by audiences and critics alike for how well it lives up to its standing as a worthy sequel for the monumentally famous original “Blade Runner”
Amazon is selling the 4K UHD Blu-ray version of the movie with HDR mastering right now for a price of $44.99 and while we don’t have any details about included special features yet, they’ll almost certainly be coming with this rather pricey disc release version when it starts shipping in early 2018. Alternatively, you could keep in mind Amazon’s low price guarantee and probably get the movie at a lower price closer to or on its home theater release date.
Amusingly, at the time of this posting, the Amazon pre-order release of the new movie sits at a lower position than the 4K HDR Blu-ray listing for the original “Blade Runner”. This will probably change as more audiences find out about this Amazon offering after seeing the sequel.
