The popular Warner Home Video production “Black Mass”, which stars Johnny Depp as famous Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger and was released to theaters in late 2015, is now also now available for purchase in digital formats which include versions in SD, Full HD 1080p and 4K ultra HD resolutions.

The digital release is coming about a month ahead of the Blu-ray DVD and On  Demand options for this movie and will also be one of the first major studio movies to become available in 4K resolution on the exact same date as its home media release.

The 4K ultra HD version of “Black Mass” can be bought from Vudu and will also feature the technology of immersive Dolby Atmos sound along with high dynamic range (HDR) color and contrast expansion technology for those 4K UHD TVs that have the ability to view this content built into them.

Naturally enough, users who want to enjoy this movie in 4K resolution will also have to have a 4K ultra HD TV in their home.

The selling price of “Black Mass” varies based on the resolution it’s bought in and the SD (standard definition, or 480p) version will retail for $14.99, with the Full HD 1080p edition selling for $19.99 and the 4K ultra HD 2160p version selling for a rather hefty $29.99 only through the Vudu streaming service app on 4K TVs. The non 4K UHD versions of the movie are however available for purchase from Amazon Instant Video, iTunes, Cinema Now, Verizon FiOS and Xfinity TV (for a slightly higher price from these latter three services).

The movie “Black Mass” tells the stunningly dramatic true story of the rise and fall of famous Boston Irish Mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger, from his takeover of organized crime in the city during the 70’s, throughout his years of power under the protection of corrupt FBI agents and his brother, a Massachusetts state senator (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) and afterwards.
