Are Spielberg Classics “E.T” and Close Encounters of the Third Kind” Coming to 4K UHD Blu-ray?
Stephan Jukic – May 22, 2017
The collection of available titles in 4K ultra HD Blu-ray disc is expanding at a steady pace thanks largely to a rather high level of popularity for the format among 4K TV owners and rumors of new releases pop up often. One of the most recent is that two of Steven Spielberg’s most iconic movies, “E.T The Extraterrestrial” and “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” are soon going to be hitting the 4K Blu-ray format later in 2017.
“E.T” is reportedly slated for release by Universal Studios, according to a report from Blu-ray.com, and will be emerging as of July 11th. For any one of the presumably few people who aren’t aware of this legendary 1980’s Spielberg movie, it tells the story of an alien accidentally stranded on Earth who befriends a young boy and his siblings while being pursued by sinister government agents. The children try to help the alien contact his home planet with the help of friends while avoiding said government officials and embark on a rather moving adventure in the process.
As for “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”, it’s getting a 4K UHD Blu-ray release courtesy of Sony but so far we have no details about when this release will be happening.
The latter movie tells its own Sci-Fi themed story about a massive extraterrestrial visit to the Earth and the mysterious psychological effect these aliens have on a large group of people who’ve been chosen to seek contact with them, including one family man who sees his personal life devastated by having had contact with the otherworldly beings.
Both movies are almost certainly currently pending for a 2017 release and we’re fairly sure that numerous Spielberg fans and lovers of the 4K Blu-ray format will be eagerly anticipating releases like these. We’re also looking forward to seeing what sorts of bonus features we can expect to come included.
