Now that a number of new 4K ultra HD Blu-ray players have been made public at CES 2016 with nearly imminent pending release, early adopters to the format can take their pick from not only the players themselves but also 4K UHD Blu-ray discs, which are also now right around the corner.

That’s right, has recently made a wide selection of 4K ultra HD Blu-ray movies available for pre-order on their website, starting with the first of these 4K Blu-ray movies in the form of “The Martian”, the recent hit movie about an astronaut lost on Mars.

“The Martian” will be available for 4K Blu-ray release as of March 1st and the other new 4K titles in the disc format will be available at the same time.

4K ultra HD Blu-ray offers support for other new technologies besides the greatly enhanced new resolution. These include expanded color gamut and the even more exciting contrast and color expansions offered by high dynamic range encoding, which allows for much greater realism and immediately visible superior quality in 4K video content. These technologies will be built not only into the discs themselves but also come as integral components of many new late 2015 and 2016 4K UHD TVs and the three new 4K Blu-ray players (from Samsung, Panasonic and Philips) which are currently on the way as well.

In fact, the Samsung 4K Blu-ray player in particular, called the UBD-K8500, is also already available for pre-order on the manufacturers website right now, for just under $400.

The prices for the new 4K Blu-ray discs themselves is slightly higher than what you’d expect for HD Blu-ray and the UHD versions should go for about $30, which is the current pre-order price for “The Martian”. This is about $10 more than what a normal HD version of these discs now sells for.

Other pre-order 4K Blu-ray titles include X-Men: Days for Future Past

Amazon’s other pre-order 4K titles in the new disc format include “Kingsman: The Secret Service”, “Exodus”, “X-Men: Days of Future Past”, “The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials”, “Fantastic Four” and more titles will follow soon after as major studios like Fox, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures and even Lions Gate Entertainment all start putting out their own titles in 4K resolution on Blu-ray disc.

The current batch of Amazon Pre-order titles are mostly 20th Century Fox selections but when the above mentioned studios also start to put out their titles (as of March 1st for Fox and Lionsgate), we can also look forward to movies like “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “San Andreas”, “Hancock”, “Chappie”, “The Last Witch Hunter” and “Ender’s Game” among dozens of other titles to be revealed throughout 2016.
